Running head: PARENTAL PRE-ACADEMIC STIMULATION AND HEAD START 1 Do the Effects of Head Start Vary by Parental Pre-academic Stimulation?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Data from the Head Start Impact Study (N=3,185) were used to determine whether Head Start differentially benefited children from homes with high, middle, and low levels of parental preacademic stimulation on three academic outcome domains – early literacy, receptive vocabulary, and early math – after one year. Results from residualized growth models showed positive impacts of random assignment to Head Start on all three outcomes, and positive associations between parental pre-academic stimulation and academic performance. Two moderated effects were also found. Head Start boosted early math skills the most for children receiving low parental pre-academic stimulation. Effects of Head Start on early literacy skills were largest for children receiving parental pre-academic stimulation in the middle ranges. Implications for Head Start are discussed.

متن کاملThe effects of head and tail stimulation on the withdrawal startle response of the rope fish (Erpetoichthys calabaricus).
While most actinopterygian fishes perform C-start or S-start behaviors as their primary startle responses, many elongate species instead use a withdrawal movement. Studies of withdrawal have focused on the response to head-directed or nonspecific stimuli. During withdrawal, the animal moves its head back from the stimulus, often resulting in several tight bends in the body. In contrast to C-sta...
متن کاملParenting Classes, Parenting Behavior, and Child Cognitive Development in Early Head Start: A Longitudinal Model
This study analyzed Early Head Start Research and Evaluation (EHSRE) study data, examining the effect of parenting classes on parenting behaviors and children’s cognitive outcomes. The study analyzed three sets of dependent variables: parental language and cognitive stimulation, parent-child interactive activities, and the Bayley Mental Development Index (MDI) of children. The analysis results,...

متن کاملDESIGN AND STRUCTURE OF A NEW DEVICE FOR AUDITORY ELECTRICAL STIMULATION FOR SUPPRESSION OF TINNITUS
Auditory Electrical Stimulation for Tinnitus Suppression Tinnitus is the conscious experience of sound which arises in the head of its owner, but without a voluntary origin obvious to that person. About 10-15% of all adults report prolonged spontaneous tinnitus (PST). There are a lot of methods for suppressing this complaint. One of these methods is electrical stimulation. Electrical stimu...
